Coming in August 30, 2025: the Spirit of Louisiana Hurricane Katrina 20th Year Commemoration.
Please note that this event is currently in development with some details subject to change. Presented by the Krewe of Black & Gold working in partnership with the City of Slidell.
While we understand that many people would rather forget that Katrina happened, the events of that date forever changed our lives, impacting so many. The 20th Anniversary marks a milestone of resilience and rebirth.
This event has been created as a way for the public to show gratitude to all of those who have been instrumental toward our recovery. This includes elected officials and government employees, law enforcement, firefighters, military, waste management, utility linemen and other essential employees, faith-based and community service organizations and volunteers, and the media who worked tirelessly to keep us informed.
All of these workers, volunteers and the public are invited to come together to be part of the second line procession to experience the outpouring of gratitude, culminating in a fabulous community concert in the Slidell Municipal Auditorium. That facility, in and of itself, represents rebirth, as it was the last of all City of Slidell buildings to be rebuilt after its predecessor was demolished by Katrina. What better place to commemorate recovery than the building that is a testimony to resilience?
This event will be free and open to the public. Due to limited seating capacity in the auditorium, preregistration for free tickets will be required. (More details to come.) Ticketed individuals will receive priority admission until 15 minutes prior to showtime, at which time doors will open to the public for remaining seating if available.

This event will be funded in part by Krewe of Black & Gold memberships. Memberships are available for a one-time fee of $25 (Founders) or $50 (VIP Founders.)
