Presented by The Antonia and Vladimir Kulaev Cultural Heritage Fund. This series showcases local and regional musicians in a relaxed and intimate setting. The lobby is transformed into a 70-seat showcase lounge!
Massachusetts-based Joe Merrick is a dynamic singer-songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and educator. With a career spanning over three decades, the Berklee College of Music alumnus has carved out a unique niche for himself in both performance and education.
For more than 20 years, he has taught drums at the famed DiCenso’s Drum Shop in Quincy and Weymouth, Massachusetts. Joe has also built an impressive client list while offering instruction in voice, piano, guitar, and recording engineering at Ultra Sound Studio in Hanover and from his Cape Cod residence.
As a producer and collaborator, Joe has worked with a wide range of local and national artists, including David Brown (guitarist for Billy Joel), Jeffrey Gaines, and Danny Seraphine (founding drummer of Chicago). He is a longtime producer of local talent, including Cape Cod favorites The Grab Brothers. A seasoned performer, he has shared the stage and bill with Rock and Roll Hall of Famers. For starters, he has harmonized with Aerosmith's Steven Tyler...played piano with Carole King,..and opened the show for Steve Miller at both the Cape Cod Melody Tent and South Shore Music Circus. Joe's own live shows -- which include a 6-year ongoing residency at The Loft in Yarmouth -- boast a high-energy mix of original music and what he calls “Crushed-Up Classic Rock.” He keeps his audiences, and himself, on their toes with a diverse songlist and ever-changing arrangements.
For those who haven't heard him in person, Joe's voice may already sound familiar. His music has appeared on HBO’s The Sopranos. And among his many radio and TV commercials he's performed on, he sang Subaru’s memorable “Ooo It’s Love” jingle, which aired nationally during the World Series He's also made multiple TV appearances, including performances on WCVB’s Chronicle, Fox 25’s Zip Trip (featuring his Cape Cod anthem “Goodnight Cape Cod”), and a holiday spotlight on Fox Rocks with his original Christmas song “Santa is Alive and Well.”
In 2019, he released his fifth solo album, Slow Down Sylvia. His songwriting has earned recognition from Billboard, The Great American Song Contest, Song of the Year, and ABET.
Along with his performing, writing, and producing career, Joe spent 8 years as Musical Director for the Anderson Ander daughter Children’s Theatre (AACT), continuing his commitment to community and education through the arts.
