Textured yarns can be a fun addition to your spinning and knitting adventures. Spiral yarns are one type, created by plying 2 singles, one fat and one thin. We will learn how to spin spiral yarn variations including gimp, flame, and slub, and how to create beehive-like yarns. We will also explore how to use these yarns. Go subtle using solid color fiber or go crazy with hand painted neons and clown barfs, or any combination in between.
Equipment to bring:
* Spinning wheel in good working order. For larger beehives, your wheel will need a large orifice, but that is optional.
* 3 empty bobbins
* Niddy Noddy
Materials to bring:
* Bring your own fiber to spin. Merino, Polwarth, or Bluefaced Leicester top are recommended for easy spinning. Fibers should consist of a couple of ounces each of two contrasting solids, or one solid and one hand painted.
* Also bring a skein of your own thin handspun or commercial yarn.
