Spinning wool or linen in the home was traditionally done by the oldest daughter of the family. People who spin were known as Spinsters, which became the more generalised name for unmarried women! Today, the word Spinner is more commonly used, as quite a number of men have taken up this skill – which includes our group. They use a variety of treadled spinning wheels – old and new- to create fibre from the fleece of sheep* and from the processed flax plant (creating linen). You are welcome to see the process and to try your hand at it. There will also be a chance to see and try the older skill of using a drop spindle.Donation made at the venue.
