About this Event
Spinal Cord Injury Centre Theoretical and Practical Study Day
This study event is designed for Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists working with individuals following spinal cord injury (SCI), or those looking to build confidence and knowledge in this specialist area. The day provides a comprehensive overview of SCI rehabilitation across the continuum of care, combining theoretical foundations with practical, workshop-based learning.
Participants will explore the phases of SCI rehabilitation and gain insight into the role of the specialist SCI centre. Key topics include principles of posture and seating, rehabilitation approaches for complete paraplegia, complete tetraplegia, and incomplete SCI, as well as assessment and treatment of the upper limb. The afternoon sessions will focus on common SCI-related complications, including pain and spasticity, and their management within therapy practice.
The programme is highly interactive, with opportunities for discussion, and time for questions. By the end of the day, attendees will have enhanced clinical reasoning skills and practical strategies to support effective rehabilitation for people with spinal cord injury.
