Experience the height of San Francisco psychedelia. We’ll open with a brief look at the 1967 sessions for After Bathing at Baxter's, followed by an uninterrupted, full-album play of this experimental classic on high-fidelity vinyl. Immerse yourself in the acid-rock sound.
Departing from the radio-friendly hits of Surrealistic Pillow, this session explores the Airplane at their most radical and unrestrained. Our introduction will provide context on the band’s shift toward sprawling, multi-part suites and the heavy, distorted textures that defined the "San Francisco Sound." As we play the record in its entirety, you’ll hear the intricate vocal harmonies of Grace Slick and Marty Balin weaving through Jorma Kaukonen’s jagged guitar lines and Jack Casady’s thundering bass. It is a rare chance to sit back and experience this sonic kaleidoscope exactly as it was intended to be heard: as a continuous, boundary-pushing journey through the heart of the counterculture.
