Spike's School | K9 E-Collar Course

This 3-day workshop focuses on building clear, effective communication between handler and K9 through proper e-collar use. Handlers will learn modern, low-level techniques that improve timing, consistency, and reliability without compromising the dog’s confidence or drive.
Participants will develop skills in working level identification, pressure application, and layering the e-collar into obedience, recall, and high-distraction environments. The course emphasizes off-leash control, neutrality, and real-world application to create more reliable, accountable K9 teams.

The goal of Spike’s School is to educate and improve communication between the handler and their K9 through top-notch training from exceptional and recognized trainers across the country. Quality training results in increased effectiveness in the workplace and safer handling, protecting everyone involved. We will be teaming up with instructor Kevin Vicini, whose experience training working dogs focuses on clear communication, accountability, and practical, real-world results. His approach gives handlers simple, repeatable systems they can immediately apply in the field.

Off-leash reliability and troubleshooting

Prerequisites:

Handler and K9 must be an active and certified member of a department’s K9 unit.

Dog must be current on core vaccinations per AAHA Core Vaccines: Rabies, and Combination vaccine (Distemper, Adenovirus-2, Parvovirus, +/- Parainfluenza).

PLEASE NOTE Students will be expected to participate in intense and rigorous training with K9s. Please come ready to train

If a K9 attending the course has received a ballistic vest from Spike’s K9 Fund’s donors, the K9 must wear the vest for the duration of the course. If the K9 team does not bring the vest, the team will be responsible for training fees associated with the course.
