Special Speakers Talk - The WRANS (Women's Royal Australian Naval Service)
About this Event
The Womens Royal Australian Navy Service (WRANS) was formed during WW2 when Violet McKenzie recruited trained wireless experts to meet a war need and to be enrolled but not enlisted in the Navy.
They became as essential part of the war effort but faced many downsides such as lower pay than their male colleagues and instant discharge if they got married.
Today women make up around 25% of permanent full time personnel in the Royal Australian Navy.
Hear about their history and their fight for acceptance and recognition.
Delivered by Viv Murray and a panel of former WRANS servicewomen.
Held in conjuction with the Naval Historical Society of Australia.
Tickets $10 / FREE for Museum and NHSA Members
