The Historic Indian Agency House was built in 1832 as an embassy between the US Government and the Ho-Chunk Nation. It stood at the Portage, or carrying place, between Fox and Wisconsin Rivers during a pivotal moment in Wisconsin's past.
Join the Agency House director Adam Novey in exploring this place and its stories. Investigate the unique firsthand accounts of Juliette Kinzie, wife of John H. Kinzie who served here as Indian sub-agent to the Ho-Chunk Nation from 1830-1833. Survey the cultural and historical scene at the Portage, and trace this historic site's connections with Ho-Chunk communities in Dodge County during the tumultuous year 1832.
