This new film is inspired by the life of Chris "Brolga" Barns, who captured hearts in our documentary Kangaroo: A Love-Hate Story.
This award-winning film brings to the big screen a story that honours Australia’s most iconic animal.
With a stellar cast including Ryan Corr, Rachel House, Lily Whiteley, Brooke Satchwell, Deborah Mailman, Rarriwuy Hick, and Ernie Dingo, Kangaroo promises to be one of the most moving and unforgettable cinema experiences of the year.
✨ Why this matters:
This event is not only a great cinema experience, it is a fundraiser for Kangaroos Alive and the Victorian Kangaroo Alliance, with a percentage of profits supporting our work to protect kangaroos across Australia.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A panel with Georgie Purcell (AJP), Craig Thomson (SKOMP), Louise Bonomi (Animals Australia) and MC is Mary Morrison from Kangaroos Alive.

** PLEASE NOTE **
We are excited to host this special screening of ‘Kangaroo’ for World Kangaroo Day. We embrace the film in the spirit that it was created: a feel-good family movie that inspires love for kangaroos and those who care for them. However, it is important to stress that this is a highly fictionalised film that does not portray the reality of kangaroo care (particularly for the grey kangaroo species most prevalent in Victoria), or safe interactions with wild kangaroos. We will take the opportunity of the Q&A after the screening to provide education about the important realities. This will include discussing the highly specialised needs of kangaroos in care, how to find appropriate care for rescued joeys, how you can help, and how we can all respectfully coexist with these remarkable animals.
