Topic: Special Mental Health Considerations for Foster and Adopted Children
Melanie Villalta, a local licensed clinical social worker and adoptive parent, will provide information regarding prenatal alcohol and drug exposure and how it may present in children that have been adopted or are in foster care. She will share about the importance of integrating the adoption story as well as ways to do this with your child. Melanie will explain the roles of grief, competing loyalties, and cultural confusion. She will conclude by providing resources for parents to use independently or integrate into their child's therapy.
Speaker: Melanie Villalta, LCSW
Melanie Villalta is a bilingual (Spanish/English) licensed clinical social worker and certified in EMDR. She specializes in working with individuals dealing with trauma, complex trauma, dissociative disorders, depression, and anxiety.
