Join a Friends of Edgewood docent for a special "Surviving Paradise" hike starting from the Clarkia Trailhead on Cañada Rd. at Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve.

While a dry summer may seem like paradise to us, it is a challenge for the plants to survive. Explore the various strategies plants use to survive the long summer drought of our mediterranean climate.

All participants, including children, must be registered individually and have approved the liability waiver through Eventbrite. More details on where to meet will be emailed to participants by your hike leader before the event.

Wear sturdy shoes and bring water. Consider sunscreen, a hat, and snacks. There are no restrooms or water available at the Clarkia Trailhead. The only restrooms and water are at the main entrance, near the picnic area next to the Sylvan Trailhead. A porta-potty can also be found at the Sunset Gate entrance. Please plan ahead.

We will still hike in light showers, but heavy rain cancels this hike.

We ask folks to register for our hikes in order to keep group sizes manageable, but often we have a few no shows. If you’d like to take a chance, you are welcome to drop-in 10 minutes before the beginning of the hike to see if there is extra room. Unfortunately, we cannot confirm whether there will be space for drop-in hikers in advance.
