Bach’s Beginnings: Cantatas & German Motets
In 1705, a young Johann Sebastian Bach walked more than 200 miles to hear the great organist Dieterich Buxtehude and overstayed his leave by months. The music he heard shaped the extraordinary cantatas he wrote soon after: intimate, intense, and full of youthful daring.
Ensemble Correspondances, celebrated interpreters of the 17th-century music that formed Bach, brings these early masterpieces to San Diego on December 9. They’re joined by award-winning mezzo-soprano Lucile Richardot.
