About this Event

Sydney’s many waterways have been a source of food, connection, industry and fun for thousands of years but have also been the scene of maritime drama, tragedy, and controversy.

Looking at the remains of 10 ships, this presentation combines history and archaeology to tell the European history of Sydney. From the sailing ships of the First Fleet and early colonial era, through the steam revolution to the twentieth century’s commercial and naval vessels, these wrecks act as a maritime time machine that opens portals to our past and show how Sydney has developed over 200 years. What does each tell us of the harbour they sailed in?

Delivered by Pam Forbes & Greg Jackson from our volunteer Museum Speakers group.
