Gardeners take great pride in their nutrient-rich, loamy, dark garden soil. However, some plants prefer — or even require — gritty, nutrient-poor or “lean” soil to thrive. Many plants from barrens, deserts, mountaintops, and bogs share this characteristic. In this talk, we’ll explore plants from these environments, and learn to create areas in our gardens to grow them.
