In the face of a rapidly changing world, modern horticulture increasingly focuses on creating gardens that support wildlife through native plants and sustainable landscape practices. At Stoneleigh, a natural garden in Villanova, PA, beauty and biodiversity are the pillars of transforming a former estate garden into a resilient garden that nurtures the natural world. Explore the diverse and creative ways native plants are used at Stoneleigh, how ecology plays into garden design and management, and how even incremental changes in the landscape can impact our native wildlife in significant ways. Samantha Nestory is engagement manager at Stoneleigh, where she develops educational programming, coordinates public events and manages volunteers. A previous Morris Arboretum staffer, she is passionate about informing the community about native plants, insects and the vital ecology of our region.
