What do a cemetery tour guide, a king, and a samurai warrior have in common? Peace! Or, perhaps, the lack of it.
With humor, warmth, and inspiration, Master Storytellers Linda "Schuyler" Ford and Tim Van Egmond will share folktales, personal stories and a dash of music to explore Peace in its many incarnations--personal, community and world. Who knew exploring Peace could be so much fun! This is an adult/family-friendly event.
LINDA SCHUYLER FORD grew up in New York's Hudson Valley, walking the very hills that inspired Washington Irving to create The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. It's no wonder she became a storyteller! Ford specializes in the works of Irving, Hudson Valley folktales, ghost stories, and Old Country tales she heard from her Dutch and German grandparents. And, yes, stories that open our eyes to the possibility of Peace. She has been a featured performer at the Florida Storytelling Festival, Madison County Tellabration, museums, libraries, and universities around the country.
With many years as a recreation therapist, she also combines storytelling with therapeutic activities, creating story-based retreats for women, Elders, and those recovering from trauma. She is a recipient of the Chuck Larkin Storytelling in Service Award. She divides her time between Connecticut and Florida.
Raised in a musical family, a lover of books from an early age, enraptured by daily sing-alongs as a kid
at day camp, enchanted by a storyteller who performed at his grade school, TIM VAN EGMOND had a lot leading him to his chosen profession as a folksinger and storyteller. Van Egmond has performed for over 40 years throughout the Northeastern U.S. and beyond, drawing up tales, tunes and songs to share
from their wellspring of rib-tickling, spine-tingling, heartwarming “water of life.”
Tim has been chosen for the New England States Touring Program, and has been a featured performer at notable festivals such as the Philadelphia Folk Festival, Three Apples Storytelling Festival and the New Jersey Storytelling Festival. He’s also been an artist-educator in school residencies, a performer at
libraries, senior centers, and museums, and a workshop presenter at conferences. Renowned author and storyteller Jane Yolen has said "Tim is a triple treat. He can sing, he can play a variety of wonderful instruments, and he can tell whopping good tales!"

The inaugural Speak Peace Storytelling Concert by these two members of Northeast Storytelling will be held at The Guthrie Center on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 4:00-5:30 pm. Refreshments will be served after the performance.
