BearFace Theatre returns to this year’s Law Week Festival after last year’s truly remarkable, sold out performance. Join us for an immersive and thought-provoking audio experience exploring the criminal justice system.
Using soundscapes, audience interaction, creative performance, and the spoken word, Speak Out, Listen In shares genuine stories from people with lived experience. Co-created with men in prison, women on probation, and young people – this unique event challenges stereotypes; uncovering a host of hidden and thought-provoking perspectives from those that seldom have a voice.
Speak Out, Listen In encourages curiosity, discussion, and challenges commonly held perceptions of justice and society. You’ll leave with new insights, numerous questions, and a deeper understanding of your place within the system.
BearFace Theatre is a UK-based Community Interest Company (CIC) dedicated to utilizing applied theatre and creative arts for social impact. Established in 2012, they work with a diverse range of individuals and groups, including people impacted by the criminal justice system, young people, and local communities. They collaborate with organizations like the Hampshire Cultural Trust; Hampshire and IOW Probation Services; and Winchester Cathedral on a range of initiatives including the “Creating Change Programme”, supported by through network of creative professionals.
BearFace Theatre utilizes applied theatre and creative arts as powerful tools for personal and social transformation, particularly for those within the criminal justice system and in local communities.
BearFace Theatre specialise in creating safe and inclusive environments where participants can explore personal and social narratives through collaborative arts projects – primarily working in prisons, YOI’s (Young Offender Institutions), and with probation services, offering bespoke programs designed to meet individual group needs. Their approach is participant-led, without pre-determined scripts or themes, allowing individuals to shape the creative process.
BearFace Theatre also runs a “HIVE” program, which provides creative coaching, mentoring, and networking opportunities to support individuals in developing their artistic ideas and pathways.
