Leadership Timeline
Superintendent Brad Saron - hired in 2015
Assistant Superintendent Stephanie Leonard - hired in 2014
Under their leadership, the Sun Prairie Area School District has experienced serious student safety concerns, including four convicted sex offenders preying on SPASD students and one currently under criminal investigation. The following is all publicly available information:
Robert Gilkey-Meisegeier - District aware May 30, 2025 - criminal investigation underway
Matthew Quaglieri β District aware October 2022
Lamont Crockett β District aware 2020
Michael A. Johnson β District aware 2019
Brett M. Berryman β District aware 2015
In addition, multiple complaints regarding student safety have been raised by parents and staff, yet many were dismissed or inadequately addressed by the superintendentβs cabinet and the school board.
Our Demands for Action in Sun Prairie
Written on August 14, 2025
Robert Gilkey-Meisegeier was the straw that broke the camelβs back. For years, the administration has overstepped its authority, and the board has allowed it. Now children have been harmed, again. We are calling on the board to use its full power to demand accountability, adopt transparent policies, and involve the community as a true partner.
1. Immediate Personnel Action - Immediately place on administrative leave the current SPWHS principal, Jen Ploeger, and any staff who were aware of misconduct and failed to report or intervene, as well as those who bypassed proper hiring procedures. These individuals should remain on leave pending the outcome of a criminal investigation, with termination if negligence is confirmed.
2.. Leadership Accountability - Resignations from district leaders who failed to act on credible child safety concerns or who allowed misconduct to go unaddressed.
3. Strengthening Child Protection Protocols - Commission an independent audit of the districtβs mandated reporting and hiring practices, ensuring a clear public timeline, transparent findings, and measurable accountability for compliance.
4. Board Accountability - Implement transparent, measurable policies with clearly defined and realistic thresholds for determining when district leadership and school administrators are failing to meet expectations- rather than defaulting to rubber-stamp approvals. Currently, the board relies on summaries and filtered reports provided by the district on numerous issues, a practice that undermines independent oversight. True accountability requires board members to seek first-hand information, not rely on pre-packaged narratives. Those who have voted against hearing appeals related to student safety should step aside to allow leaders who are fully committed to protecting every student.
5. True Community Involvement in decision- making, not hand-picked committees with pre-determined outcomes.
6. Independent Appeals Process - Require all community appeals to be heard directly by the board, without district staff present during deliberations to ensure independence and prevent undue influence.
