About this Event

Each session is 90 minutes:

Your host is Vanessa Woolf.

  1. Welcome and short intro
  2. Live storytelling on the topic from participants (message me if you wish to tell )
  3. 5 minute break
  4. Discussion on the topic.

If you want to tell a story or extract... great! Time limit is 7 minutes. Please email [email protected] in advance.

This event is thoughtful, gentle, inclusive and kind.

TOPICS:

17th Sept - Audience interaction. (Why use interaction? What different types of interaction are there? What might go wrong and what can go right!)

15th October - Fear (how do we make stories chilling, ethics around scary storytelling)

19 Nov - True stories. (What kinds of true stories can we tell? How can we bring authenticity into our stories? Which narratives and viewpoints could we choose?)

**December break**

21 Jan - Aphrodite. (Explore the meanings and symbolism around the Greek figure of Aphrodite. Led by guest artist Polis Loizou who will also share extracts from his show.)

18 Feb - Heard It Before! (What techniques can we use to bring fresh life into very familiar or well-known stories?)

18 March - Movement (what different ways can we bring physical movement into our stories, including face and eye movements?)

15 April - Props, sounds and music. (How can we use objects or sound makers to enhance our stories?)

20 May - Hope. (How can we use our stories to bring hope and positivity into different situations?)

17 June - Popular choice. This slot has been kept free for a workshop on a topic to be decided by our community.

July (date not decided) - Secret Garden Stories. Perform to a fantastic audience at the Waterloo Festival and get professional photos for your website or CV.

This workshop series was created "to support and nourish the storytelling commuity in London". Our community includes professional storytellers, writers and other creatives. It also includes keen amateurs, complete beginners, new people and those who are just curious! You will find a mixture of levels and experience in the workshops. Plenty of people come along on their own. Anyone is welcome to join in or just listen.

(We are generously supported by The Bridge at Waterloo, a non-denominational non -religious charity who let us use St John's building. There will be an opportunity to tap-to-donate to support The Bridge if you wish, but there is NO obligation and the sessions are free.)
