Course Description
This program is intended for all staff who provide care to neurologically impaired patients in acute care facilities. The symposium will provide lecture and discussion topics focused on a wide range of information related to current trends for optimal care, newest technology and best practice strategies for patients who have suffered a stroke.
This program is also intended for all EMS, including paramedics, EMTs, MICNs and firefighters. Stroke Symposium 2026 EMS objectives:
- Identify key updates in the 2026 AHA Stroke Guidelines and their impact on acute treatment, imaging, and time-to-therapy decisions.
- Describe evidence-based approaches to managing asymptomatic carotid artery stenosis based on findings from the CREST-2 trial.
- Understand the role of prolonged cardiac rhythm monitoring in ischemic stroke and TIA, including indications for implantable loop recorders.
- Apply ICU-based stroke care protocols for post-thrombolysis, endovascular therapy, and hemorrhagic stroke patients.
- Discuss indications, techniques, and outcomes of neuro‑interventional procedures, including mechanical thrombectomy and aneurysm treatments.
- Identify post-procedural monitoring priorities and complications following neuro‑interventional stroke care.
- Review the evolution of thrombolytic therapy and emerging strategies to expand treatment eligibility and improve stroke outcomes.
