About this Event

Join us for two unforgettable days at the Southern Utah Sewing and Textiles Conference, where educators, 4-H leaders, sewing enthusiasts, and fabric lovers come together to learn, create, and connect. This hands-on conference is designed to spark creativity and build confidence through engaging, skill-building projects for all levels.

This year's schedule is packed with projects designed to build skills, spark creativity, and send you home with practical creations you'll love.

  • Around-the-home accessories such as a Grip & Turn Jar Opener, Fabric Bowl Cover, and No-Slip Sewing Machine Foot Pedal Pad.
  • Create an adorable pumpkin motif pillow while learning the fundamentals of foundation paper piecing.
  • Stitch a versatile Atlas Zipper Case—perfect for organizing sewing supplies, travel essentials, or everyday items.
  • Sew a fun and functional backpack that you'll be proud to carry using the Sunset Ridge panel from Minki Kim.
  • Share your talents by creating Quilt-as-You-Go Baby Bibs for a meaningful community service project.
  • Learn alongside keynote speaker Debra Proctor and special guest Traci Hannay as they guide you through a unique make-and-take project.
  • Enjoy bonus projects, including a stylish scrunchie lanyard and a handy felt thread catcher.

We're especially excited to welcome Debra Proctor, Emeritus Extension Associate Professor and sewist extraordinaire, as our keynote speaker. Her enthusiasm, expertise, and wealth of sewing knowledge are sure to inspire you, strengthen your skills, and leave you eager to start your next sewing adventure with confidence.

Whether you're a Family and Consumer Sciences educator looking for classroom-ready projects, a 4-H leader seeking fresh ideas, or simply someone who loves to sew, this conference has something for everyone.

You won't want to miss these two fun-filled days of inspiration, motivation, education, personal satisfaction, and the opportunity to meet other sewing enthusiasts. You might even win an awesome door prize from one of our many sponsors!

Note: Teachers will receive re-licensure points for attending the conference.

Cost: $135 - includes materials for all of the projects, lunch each day, a swag bag, and hours of fun and friendship!

Dates and Times:

Tuesday, September 22, 8:00am - 5:00pm, doors open at 7:30am (Lunch is included.) There will be an optional open sewing time from 5:00pm-6:00pm.

Wednesday, September 23, 8:00am - 5:00pm (Lunch is included.)

Location: Grafton Building at the Washington County Fairgrounds, Hurricane, UT

Each participant must bring:

  • A sewing machine and basic sewing supplies (scissors, thread, seam gauge, seam ripper, etc.). Suggested thread colors: black, white, neutral colors.
  • We will have several irons and ironing boards available, but if you have an iron and portable ironing board you can bring, we ask that you bring it to help prevent bottlenecks at the ironing stations.
  • A zipper foot will come in handy for a couple of the projects. Also, a walking foot will be helpful if you have one, but it is not critical to the projects.

If you have questions, please reach out to Andrea Schmutz at 435-301-7747 or [email protected].
