Highlights:
Since its humble beginnings in 1972 as an end-of-summer party among 40-50 friends calling themselves 'Decadents,' Southern Decadence has evolved into the fifth-largest annual event in New Orleans, exceeded only by Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, Essence Festival, and French Quarter Festival. With attendance ranging from 100,000 to 300,000 participants, the festival generates over $275 million in positive economic impact for New Orleans. The event's resilience has been tested by challenges including Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the COVID-19 pandemic, yet it has consistently bounced back, demonstrating the strength and determination of the LGBTQ+ community. Centered at the intersection of Bourbon and St. Ann Streets, considered the epicenter of Gay New Orleans, Southern Decadence represents a unique fusion of New Orleans' legendary party culture with LGBTQ+ pride and celebration, creating an atmosphere unlike any other festival in America.
