Since its humble beginnings in 1972 as an end-of-summer party among 40-50 friends calling themselves 'Decadents,' Southern Decadence has evolved into the fifth-largest annual event in New Orleans, exceeded only by Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, Essence Festival, and French Quarter Festival. With attendance ranging from 100,000 to 300,000 participants, the festival generates over $275 million in positive economic impact for New Orleans.
