About this Event
We are delighted to collaboratively host our South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Healthcare that works for Young People Conference 2025. This face-to-face, regional event will bring people together across physical and mental health, acute care and primary care, local authority, education and Voluntary Community and Social Enterprises. The event will include national and regional speakers, share good practice and offer opportunities for networking. We welcome attendees across all sectors, who work with young people aged between 14 and 25.
There are few things more important for a health system than ensuring the needs of children and young people are met, and their voices influence the care they receive.
In South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw, there are 445,000 children and young people and 40% of these live in poverty. There are approximately 202,000 young people aged between 14-24 in SYB, and it is estimated that around 1 in 5 have a long-term disability or long-term condition.
Adolescence is a unique part of the journey into adulthood, where the brain transforms as it develops until the young person's mid-20s. In our complex health system, it is essential we design care that meets the differing developmental needs of young people.
Together we can work to transform care, so that young people experience healthcare that is personalised, compassionate, and flexible to every age and stage. To achieve this, we must break down barriers across all our sectors and and work in partnership towards a shared vision.
Our recently published document ‘Healthcare that works for Young People’ has helped to set a strategic vision for the future, and now is the time to come together to collectively to make the vision a reality.
The conference will be delivered in partnership with the 3rd Sheffield Annual Young People & Transition Conference which has evolved from annual trust study days at Sheffield Children's Hospital NHS FT (SCHFT), to a national event. A collaborative effort between SCHFT and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals (STH) marked a significant step with a successful national virtual event in March 2024 that focussed on young people’s health and improving healthcare transitions.
