South Melbourne AI Generated Short Film Festival - Crown Visual Studio
About this Event
Every film you'll see tonight was made without a camera.
Join us at Crown Visual Studio for the South Melbourne AI Generated Film Festival, an intimate Friday-night screening of seven short films created entirely with generative AI, by filmmakers from Australia, Canada, China, Germany and the USA.
Whether you're curious, sceptical, or already prompting your own scenes, this is your chance to see what AI cinema actually looks like on a big screen. Not a 10-second clip on your phone, but finished films with stories, characters and a soundtrack, made by people who had an idea and no crew.
What's on the screen
Three of the seven have already won awards on the international circuit. A Face Only A Mother Could Love (Canada) took the Grand Prix at the Runway AI Film Festival in New York. Spring in a Bottle (China) won Best Experimental Film in New York and Best Generative AI at Lands End in Australia. Human Zoo comes from a Melbourne director, so you'll be seeing local work on its home turf.
Alongside them: a lonely man in Paris whose mother told him every morning he was beautiful; a teenager who gets god-like power from a software update; a dystopia where the algorithm dissolves dissent by calling it "optimization"; and an eight-year-old girl who mails spring to her parents in a plastic bottle.
