Gut Health and Diet: Fact Versus Fiction

From TikTok trends to wellness influencers, gut health advice is everywhere but how much of it is actually true? In this talk, a gastroenterologist and dietitian team up to unpack some of the most common myths and misconceptions.'

Drawing on current research (and pointing out where evidence is missing), they’ll explore how the gut works, common gut health issues and what really supports gut health, to help make sense of the constant stream of online nutrition claims.

Your Speaker:

Sarah Melton is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Senior Gastroenterology Dietitian at Alfred Care Group, Bayside Health. She has just submitted her PhD with Monash University, investigating Exclusive Enteral Nutrition in Crohn's disease. Alongside this, she is co-founder and board member of GI DREAM, a registered health promotion charity dedicated to diet and gastrointestinal health.

Alex Mack is a consultant gastroenterologist at Bayside Health, Melbourne. She recently completed her PhD at the School of Translational Medicine, Monash University, examining mechanisms and therapies for persistent gastrointestinal symptoms, fatigue and anxiety/depression in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Her clinical and research interests include intestinal ultrasound, IBD and neurogastroenterology.
