South Indian festival of lights also called Karthigai Deepam or Thirukarthikai that is observed to celebrate the birth of Lord Murugan on the day of karthigai nakchatra mainly in Tamil Nadu, but also in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telengana, Karnataka and Sri Lanka. Tamil Nadu celebrates Karthigai Deepam as a traditional festival.
