South Carolina Agricultural Council Fall Tour 2026

Come experience the Pee Dee region of South Carolina on a fun-filled tour that celebrates agriculture, food, history, and the people who make this part of the state special! From historic rice fields to innovative school farming, this tour offers a behind-the-scenes look at how South Carolina grows it, cooks it, and brings it to the table.

Our journey begins with Carolina Plantation Rice at Plumfield Plantation, the only colonial-era plantation in the Carolinas still growing rice for commercial sale. Discover the fascinating story behind South Carolina’s rice-growing heritage and learn how aromatic Carolina rice was reintroduced to the state in 1996. You’ll have a chance to experience a distinctive Southern grain whose aroma and flavor have roots reaching all the way back to the 18th century.

Next, it’s time to eat! We’ll enjoy lunch at Elliott’s BBQ, where Florence native and acclaimed chef Elliott Moss brings his award-winning Carolina barbecue traditions home. Elliott’s was recently named by Southern Living as the best new barbecue joint in the South. Watch for the aroma of pecan-smoked meats as you dig into whole-hog barbecue, chicken bog, hash, ribs, and classic Southern sides. This is Southern cooking with plenty of personality—and plenty to enjoy!

After lunch, we’ll explore the Pee Dee State Farmers Market, a year-round destination showcasing fresh produce, ornamental plants, and South Carolina agriculture. With more than 700,000 visitors annually, the market is a true Pee Dee landmark.

Our final stop is The Farm at Florence 1, an innovative farm-to-school educational facility where students can literally “grow it, pick it, cook it, and eat it.” See how agriculture, nutrition, culinary arts, entrepreneurship, and hands-on learning come together in one remarkable place.
