Learn to make sourdough focaccia from scratch and take home your own loaf, a 20+ year sourdough starter, recipes, and the skills to make it
About this Event

Sourdough doesn’t have to be complicated. In this hands-on class at Layered Cake Artistry, you’ll learn a simple, reliable method for making flavorful sourdough focaccia at home, even if you’ve never baked with sourdough before.

We’ll work through the process together, from understanding and feeding your starter to mixing, folding, shaping and topping your dough. You’ll learn what to look for at each stage so you can confidently recreate the bread recipe in your own kitchen.

And you won’t be starting from scratch after class. You’ll take home a portion of my 20+ year-old sourdough starter, originally from Red Mountain, along with everything you need to keep it going.

What you'll do

During this 90-minute class, you’ll:

  • Learn how to feed, maintain and bake with a sourdough starter
  • Mix and work with focaccia dough using a simple, beginner-friendly method
  • Learn the timing and techniques that create a light, airy focaccia
  • Mix your own focaccia dough to take home and bake
  • Taste freshly baked focaccia
  • Sample three different extra-virgin olive oils from around the world and learn how these different oils affect the flavor of your bread

You'll take home

Your own focaccia to bake at home, a portion of my 20+ year sourdough starter, the focaccia recipe and instructions for caring for your starter. This isn't just a class, it's the beginning of bread you can make for years to come.

Focaccia is one of the most versatile breads to have in your repertoire. Serve it alongside dinner, turn it into sandwiches, add it to a charcuterie board, or simply tear off a warm piece and dip it in good olive oil.

No sourdough experience is needed. This class is designed for beginners and anyone who wants a straightforward way to make great bread at home.

Start the new year by learning a baking skill you’ll use long after the class is over.

Want to bring someone along?

Add a Companion Ticket for $20 and share the experience with a friend, partner or family member.

Your companion can join you throughout the class, taste the freshly baked focaccia and participate in the olive oil tasting.

The Companion Ticket does not include a separate focaccia to take home or a sourdough starter. Those are included with the full class ticket.

One Companion Ticket may be added per full class ticket.
