About this Event
Join Nicholas Constantino (Director of Research and Programs) for a discussion of exciting sources dating to early and medieval China. Each meeting, we’ll consider a different set of primary sources that highlight interesting topics in Chinese philosophy, law, politics, literature, and religion.
For this first meeting, we’ll examine the many ways that Confucius (trad. 551—479 BCE) and his teachings have been portrayed throughout China’s history. We’ll look at early biographical accounts, texts and artwork excavated from Han dynasty (206 BCE – 220 CE) tombs, philosophical writings, and modern interpretations. Together, we'll consider the contemporary relevance of his legacies.
No prior knowledge of Chinese history or language is required to attend.
