See the DeKalb area through local photographer Michael Day’s eyes at the next Soup-er Sunday program at the Glidden Homestead.
At 12 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, at the Glidden Homestead, 921 W. Lincoln Highway, join DeKalb wildlife photographer Michael Day for an informal talk and slideshow about his hyperlocal photography project. In his photos, Day documents and shares the astounding beauty and variety of creatures that can all be found on the NIU campus and in Prairie Park. Day will have cards, prints, and calendars available for purchase.
Admission is $5 per person, free for Homestead members, and includes the program, a bowl of soup, and a house tour.
Day is Professor Emeritus at Northern Illinois University, where he served as Professor of English and Director of the First-Year Composition Program for over 20 years. In retirement, Day has two main projects: co-authoring a book on the Japanese in Chicago 1900-1940 with his wife, Takako, and a hyperlocal wildlife photography project that entails daily walks in the woods adjoining NIU and culminates yearly in a local wildlife calendar to benefit the Friends of the NIU Library. Day shows his work at Jubilee Artisans in DeKalb and DeBlois Gallery in Middletown, RI. He also posts his wildlife photos in local bird and photography groups on Facebook.
Soup-er Sunday programs support the J.F. Glidden Homestead & Historical Center in DeKalb, a not-for-profit organization working to preserve the home and barn, both listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
