About this Event

Sounding At Sea: An Immersive VR Experience

Following the performance of Sounding At Sea as part of Night 1 of GIOFest, audiences are invited to try out the experience for themselves and the immersive virtual reality (VR) environment behind the work.

This hands-on workshop offers participants the opportunity to explore an underwater world through the perspective of marine mammals, discovering how ocean soundscapes shape communication, movement and behaviour. Participants will also learn about the research underpinning the project, including the impact of human-generated noise pollution on orcas and other marine life, and how immersive technologies can open new possibilities for interspecies understanding.

Developed by musician Alex South and creative XR technologist Michal Lovecky, Sounding At Sea brings together marine acoustic research, experimental music, movement and virtual reality.

Spaces are limited to 8 participants per session. For 30 minute session time slots which can be booked here. Please book your preferred time slot!
