About this Event
This public and free gathering is an invitation to slow down and care for ourselves, one another, and the land in a way that feels grounded and accessible.
We will begin with a guided 4-mile hike through Dan Ryan Woods, walking at a welcoming pace while learning about the land, the surrounding neighborhood, and the stories connected to this place. As we move together, we will reflect on how land restoration and community restoration are deeply connected, and how shared outdoor spaces can support healing and connection.
After the hike, we will gather at the Dan Ryan Woods Event Pavilion for a sound healing experience. This portion of the gathering is focused on self-restoration. Gentle sounds and vibrations will support nervous system regulation, rest, and reflection. No experience with sound healing is needed.
Come as you are and receive.
This is a supportive, healing space designed with care and intention.
We will provide:
- Trail snacks and hot drinks
- Hand warmers and foot warmers to help you stay comfortable
- A welcoming environment led by experienced facilitators
This event is completely FREE thanks to a Healing Illinois grant. It is led by Light of Loving Kindness and Friends of the Forest Preserves in partnership with Black People Outside and Lin Prucher, as part of an ongoing series focused on self-restoration, community restoration, and land restoration across the Calumet region.
Whether you are coming to move your body, learn local history, rest your mind, or spend time in nature with others, you are welcome here.
We look forward to restoring together.
