Soul Food Sunday is a monthly gathering hosted by The Third Place that brings people together around Black culinary traditions, storytelling, and shared reflection to strengthen social connections across the diaspora.

This month’s theme — Across Cultures & Continents — invites us to explore the remarkable connections in food traditions across the African diaspora. From the Caribbean to Brazil, from the American South to West Africa, from the Indian Ocean to New England kitchens, African-descended communities have carried culinary knowledge across oceans and generations.

These foodways are more than recipes. They are acts of memory, resilience, adaptation, and cultural survival.

Conversation Starters

• What do you consider to be your cultural food? How has the migration of yourself or the culinary tradition transformed the ways in which it is consumed by yourself or others?
• When communities are displaced or migrate, recipes often change based on what ingredients are available. Why do you think food traditions often survive even when other cultural practices disappear?

The gathering is free to attend for the first individual in your party. RSVP REQUIRED.

Children are welcome. BIPOC and their blended families are welcome to attend. Community allies who have attended at least one event hosted by The Third Place are also welcome to join.
