🔥 ECOLOGY AS A TOOL FOR LIBERATION
Sou Sou! Saturdays returns on Saturday, September 26 with Heat, Marronage & Liberation, a special edition of our signature program, presented in collaboration with Lizania Cruz and her Adobe Creative Residency with MoMa.
Our ancestors and freedom fighters understood that the natural world could be a tool for liberation, from the land beneath our feet, to the movement of the stars, to the animals and plants with whom we share our environments.
On Saturday, September 26, join CCCADI and Lizania Cruz for an intergenerational day exploring the connections between ecology, resistance, healing, and liberation through storytelling, collective artmaking, conversation, movement, and Fête.
🐝 We’ll reimagine the mosquito as a character in folktales connecting West Africa and the Caribbean.
🌿 We’ll map the stories, practices, and ecological knowledge we carry.
🔥 We’ll explore heat, marronage, and liberation through plant knowledge and Carnival characters including Dame Lorraine, El Roba la Gallina, and Jonkonnu.
💃🏽 And we’ll close with a Fete, embodying heat as a force for individual and collective liberation.
