About Sora! Idol Festival

Sora! Idol Festival is back for Spring 2027. This idol festival is a concert experience for UMW students, by UMW students. SIF works to celebrate aspiring kaigai idols and established performers throughout the DMV region and even beyond. Everyone is invited to enjoy the show as a variety of idols take the stage to share their passions and feelings with the audience.
To anyone unfamiliar, an Idol Festival is an event where group/solo idols can perform on stage for a certain permitted amount of time to sing, dance, and interact with the audience. Most commonly, idol festivals showcase cosplay idols, k-pop/j-pop Cover groups, and Kaigai (or overseas) idols. Idol festivals have become a popular staple at many major conventions, including Katsucon and Otakon.

Doors open at 5:00 pm. Show begins at 5:30 pm. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own penlights.

Venue Info

SIF will take place in Chandler Ballroom, which is located in the CRUC on the campus of the University of Mary Washington. Chandler Ballroom can be accessed by vehicle on College Avenue. The building can also be accessed via Campus Walk.

Parking Info

Performers and attendees will park on the top floor of the Alvey Parking Deck, which is accessible from Route 1 (Emancipation Highway). Route 1 connects to I-95 via exit 126 (US 1/MAssaponax).

Directions from Route 1:

1. From Emancipation Highway, you will see a pedestrian tunnel that says “University of Mary Washington”. If you are southbound, Alvery Drive will be on the left-hand side before you pass the tunnel. If you are northbound, Alvery Drive will be on the right-hand side immediately after the tunnel.
2. Turn onto Alvery Drive. If you are southbound, then you will need to cross the northbound lanes of traffic or make a U-turn at the stoplight intersecting with College Avenue. There will be signs directing you to the parking deck along the road.
3. Proceed straight until you encounter the parking garage. Then turn left onto the deck. You will enter the 4th floor of the parking deck, which is where you are authorized to park.

About UMW Cosplay Club

The UMW Cosplay Club is an ICA-recognized university organization at the University of Mary Washington, located in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Founded in October of 2023, the club is one of the fastest-growing communities of cosplayers not just on VA college campuses but in the DMV. The club consists of over 100 members of the UMW student body who are interested in cosplay, costume craftsmanship, alternative and J-fashion, fursuiting, anime/comic conventions, fandom spaces, and much more. Its goal is to host events celebrating cosplay and all of its related fandom-centric elements. Part of the UMW Cosplay Club’s itinerary includes a cosplay masquerade every Fall, called Mirai Cosplay Matsuri.
