Documentary photographer Sophie Green will be joined by Angele Alberti, artist consultant and host of the What We Make podcast, to discuss Sophie’s creative practice. This in-conversation event will focus on Sophie’s long-term photographic work, collaborative approach to portraiture and experience documenting communities across Britain.
The event coincides with the release of the long-awaited second edition of her photobook Tangerine Dreams and takes place alongside the exhibition Tangerine Dreams: Rituals of Belonging in Contemporary British Life, on display at the MPF Gallery from 04 JUN – 06 SEPT. The talk will be followed by questions from the floor and a book signing.
For more than a decade, Sophie has documented the margins of British culture through sustained, long-term projects. This work culminated in her third major publication, Tangerine Dreams, which presents a portrait of the communities, subcultures and social gatherings that shape contemporary Britain. The collection examines how rituals and traditions foster connection, belonging and shared identity, offering a layered and often celebratory view of collective life.
Many of Sophie’s projects develop over several years. Her practice, rooted in immersion and collaboration, focuses on building relationships with the people she photographs, producing portraits that foreground agency, authenticity and shared authorship.
During the talk, Sophie and Angele will discuss Sophie’s working process, the development of Tangerine Dreams, and the exhibition prints on display in the MPF Gallery.
