Tom Steyer is a climate activist and investor, leading efforts in green energy, youth engagement, and sustainable development.
About this Event

Tom Steyer is the co-executive chair of Galvanize Climate Solutions, a multi-strategy climate investment firm designed to unlock the generational opportunity of the energy transition. He founded America’s largest youth-voter engagement organization and cofounded a community development bank focused on justice and sustainability. He previously cofounded Farallon Capital, a pioneering hedge fund that he left in 2012 to devote his time, money, and energy to climate issues. Since 1986, he has been a proud San Franciscan.

Steyer has long been on the frontline of the war against climate change, from his 2020 presidential run on a climate platform to his investments in green technology, from his fights to pass clean-energy laws to his voter registration efforts. In his accessible and inspiring book, (Spiegel & Grau, May 28, 2024), he makes a compelling argument that fossil fuels are not only harmful but a bad investment; in fact, he believes that as clean energy wins in the marketplace, oil and gas will go the way of other old and defunct energy sources, such as whale oil. Steyer also shares his own compelling story of how he woke up to climate change, walking away from his wildly successful investment firm to devote himself full-time to creating a healthier planet.

“In Cheaper, Faster, Better, Tom Steyer’s persuasive storytelling and contagious optimism underscore one of the most important realities of the climate crisis: If we work together, we can solve it. As a relentless climate activist and accomplished investor, Tom’s insights will help galvanize the movement that is needed to address the greatest challenge of our lifetimes.”
—Al Gore, former U.S. Vice President

Tom will be interviewed by Sonoma Speaker Series board member, David Bolling. Readers Books will have signed copies of his book on sale in the lobby before and after the speaker presentation.
