Sonny Moorman Live! at Waynesville Music

Sonny Moorman is well-known in the Cincinnati area as an icon of blues guitar. Though he most often is described as a “power blues” guitarist, combining emotional intensity of blues with rock energy, he also is adept with the more subtle art of acoustic country blues. In his early years he played with the Tomcats (featuring members of Sly and the Family Stone) and also played in Warren Zevon’s touring band. He’s been compared stylistically to Duane Allman, Lonnie Mack, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Gov’t Mule and Warren Haynes. His live performances are known for strong guitar work, soulful vocals, and paying homage to older blues/rock traditions. He headlined at the 2012 GABBAfest (Georgia Allman Brothers Association), where he had a chance to play Duane Allman’s guitar, and has in past years been a finalist in the International Blues Challenge as well as other other competition placements and nominations. Moorman has brushed up against the legend of the Allman Brothers Band by association a few times -- his manager Willie Perkins was the Allmans’s road manager in the 1970s. At GABBAfest he jammed with Berry Duane Oakley, the son of the legendary bassist.

Earlier this year Sonny Moorman with Jeff Dion on blues harp won the Cincinnati Blues Challenge, qualifying the duo to compete in Memphis later this year for the International Blues Challege Crown. They also plan a CD release of their music likely to be released very soon.

Moorman will join Jeff Dion on harp for a duo performance at Waynesville Music, between Cincinnati and Dayton, on Saturday November 8, an intimate listening room experience. The venue can only accommodate an audience of 30 people, so be sure to buy tickets in advance and avoid the likely chance that this show will sell out.
