✨ Welcome to a new way of experiencing the healing power of music! ✨🕯️ Sonic Ritual is a journey through improvised soundscapes channeled by cellist Ben Roberts, supported by Steph Kelly, who will also hold the container with some light facilitation at the beginninag and end. Ben creates immersive cinematic soundscapes with electric cello, the powerful emotional energy of the acoustic cello, voice and other instruments. Watch a video about Sonic Ritual here.
"Absolutely amazing. Warm, welcoming - and by far the best Cello music i've ever heard in my life." - Participant
🎻 These live compositions are influenced by science, shamanism, veda, western music theory, and deep intuition. You are invited to lie down and get comfortable or to move, whatever you feel called to. You might want to bring a notebook or sketchpad as people often receive creative inspiration or personal insights during the journey.
“ I felt like I was travelling to the depths of our earth with each different sound. I was under the ocean, inside the earth, up in the skies. It was like I was part of the music.” - Participant
💛 This is a special edition of our biweekly Sonic Ritual events at Bowden House; given that we frequently receive feedback that people want it to go on for longer, we decided to create a one-off sonic deep dive; a mindful, meditative, exploratory journey. We'll have the space to really immerse ourselves in the music, to feel deeply, to allow old energy to be released and new impulses to bud, to be active witnesses in our own unfolding, held in the powerful container of improvised music.
✝️ We are honoured to be bringing this experience to the sacred space of St Mary's Church, harnessing the acoustic power of the space and integrating contemporary practice within an ancient spiritual context.
꩜ We will be holding the event on Ascension Day; the day that Jesus/Yeshua is said to have ascended to heaven. Whatever our relationship to the Christ story, we feel there is an added invitation to connect with the bigger picture of our lives; where we're at on our journey, what life is asking from us now. What is the next turn of the spiral? What is calling us into the next chapter of our becoming?

About your hosts
Ben Roberts, Cellist
Spanning disparate realms of spirituality, punk, sound design and alternative healing, cellist Ben Roberts is on a quest to upend what he describes as regressive ‘Oil Age’ attitudes and transform the world through art. Applying cello techniques that are both classical and avant-garde, Ben’s boundary-defying music rips up the rule book by challenging conventional tunings and dispensing with traditional melodic hooks in favour of raw textures and hypnotic architectural stillnesses.
Trained as a professional engineer, Ben spent years working in building design at a senior conceptual level. From this he acquired a vital insight: civilisation’s big problems such as environmental rapacity and climate change will never be tackled until the ambient level of human consciousness is somehow elevated. Thus he turned his attention full time to his passion for the cello, immersing himself in mystical literature, punk philosophy and music history, and set about composing music designed to both reflect and usher in a new era of awareness.
