Pawtucket, RI – Celebrate Labor Day weekend with live music and living history where American industry began. Songwriters at Slater Mill returns on Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 1:00–4:00 PM, bringing an afternoon of outstanding original music to the historic grounds of Old Slater Mill National Historic Landmark, 67 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI.
The event grew out of the River Bend East Songwriters Festival, an annual celebration held at Slater Mill over Labor Day weekend that brought together nationally recognized and local artists in support of music, community, and environmental stewardship. Songwriters at Slater Mill proudly continues that tradition by showcasing exceptional singer-songwriters in one of Rhode Island's most historic and inspiring settings.
Admission is free, and guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy an afternoon of live music along the banks of the Blackstone River.

1:00 PM – Benjamin Quinn
Benjamin Quinn opens the afternoon with his thoughtful songwriting, rich vocals, and compelling blend of folk, Americana, and roots music. His performances combine heartfelt storytelling with memorable melodies that have earned him a devoted following throughout New England.
2:00 PM – Michelle Saylors
Michelle Saylors brings a powerful voice and deeply personal songwriting to the stage. Blending folk, Americana, and contemporary influences, her performances are known for their emotional honesty, expressive vocals, and engaging connection with audiences.
3:00 PM – J. Michael Graham
Closing the afternoon is Rhode Island singer-songwriter J. Michael Graham, whose latest album, Stuck, was nominated for a 2025 Rhode Island Music Award. Drawing inspiration from artists including Tom Petty, The Jayhawks, Gillian Welch, and John Mellencamp, Graham's songs combine vivid storytelling, memorable melodies, and a deep appreciation for the traditions of American roots music.
In addition to the music, the National Park Service will offer its regularly scheduled free guided tours of Old Slater Mill in honor of Rhode Island's rich labor history. Tours are offered Thursday through Sunday, require no advance registration, and on September 5 will depart at 10:30 AM, 12:30 PM, and 2:30 PM, giving visitors an opportunity to explore the birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution while enjoying an afternoon of original music.
Set against the backdrop of America's first successful water-powered textile mill, Songwriters at Slater Mill offers audiences a unique opportunity to experience exceptional original music where history, creativity, and community come together. The event celebrates the enduring power of songwriting while honoring the cultural legacy of the Blackstone Valley.
