If you’ve ever felt like your body holds on to tension, pain, or old patterns, you’re not imagining it.
Hanna Somatics is a gentle, movement-based method that uses the mind–body connection to retrain your nervous system, restore voluntary control of your muscles, and help you move with greater ease.
Developed by educator Thomas Hanna in the 1970s, this approach blends Western neuroscience with the wisdom of ancient practices like tai chi and qi gong. Through simple, mindful movements, you’ll learn how to sense, release, and repattern the way your body responds to stress — so you can feel more grounded, mobile, and pain-free.
While the whole body will be addressed, there will be particular attention paid to the lower back and hips.
In this training, you will:
·~Learn the foundational movements of Hanna Somatics, including pandiculation for deep muscle release.
~Build a home practice to reduce chronic tension and discomfort
~Explore ways to integrate somatic techniques into yoga styles like Vinyasa, Yin, or Restorative
~Understand how to calm and strengthen your nervous system for lasting resilience
You’ll also receive video recordings of each movement we cover, so you can revisit and refine your practice at home. In addition, you will receive a 15-week curriculum that you can follow to help integrate the material. There are writing prompts, thoughtful questions, and exercises to aid in your understanding of the concepts and movements.
No teaching background is required — this training is for anyone ready to move with more freedom, comfort, and awareness.
Shawn Cornelison has taught this training all over the world. He is always amazed at the results that can be gained from such simple and intuitive movements. It just takes awareness and a willingness to slow down and feel.
