Somali Soul: Hoy is Home
About this Event
Somali Soul: Hoy Is Home is a cultural celebration of Somali women’s labor, creativity, and the many ways they have built and carried home.
From constructing the traditional aqal Somali, creating the woven objects that make a home, to singing working songs that accompanied everyday life, Somali women have long been cultural producers, archivists, and keepers of memory.
This gathering offers a small glimpse into those traditions and the often-unseen labor behind them—honoring the knowledge, artistry, and ingenuity passed from one generation to the next.
We’ll spend a little time learning, listening, and reflecting on these traditions before doing what Somali women have always known how to do: gather, celebrate, and have a good time.
Come dressed in a baati or dirac shiids and get ready to dance. We will have the matcha there.
Somali Soul: Hoy Is Home is a night of history, culture, sisterhood, and good vibes—because home is something we build together.
