Solo exhibition "Try on a feeling" by Gretė Labanauskaitė

𝐈𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐥?

The world around us is mainly perceived through sight. About 80% of human perception is made up of vision. While we typically perceive fashion objects through visual experience there are individuals who perceive fashion through touch scent and sound.

This exhibition presents an artistic project that bridges the gap between people who are visually impaired and those who are sighted and promotes the accessibility of art through non-visual fashion objects. Here sight has no advantage - all objects can be (and are) perceived through other senses imagination and memory.

Exploring the differences and similarities in sensory experiences between people who are visually impaired and sighted people has led to the development of unique materials that enhance the experiences of both groups most effectively. These materials were created into objects sounds smells and garments.

The exhibition aims to provide visually impaired people with an equal experience of fashion while helping sighted people to rediscover the benefits and richness of their senses.

Designer Gretė Labanauskaitė turns clothing into a "social tool" in her creative process. Her tactile clothing collection "TU" developed during her bachelor's studies won the Young Designers Additional Prize in '21 and the main prize at the Design Days '21 and was showcased at fashion events in Lithuania and abroad. Her master's project "Try on a Feeling" was awarded at the Good Design Awards '23.

On the 29th of November at 6 pm we invite you to the opening of the exhibition at the UMI Gallery (Užupio g. 2A)

The exhibition will be on display until the 4th of January 2025 gallery opening hours III-VI 12:00-18:00.
