There are places where the water widens. And there are places where it narrows.
The Kent Narrows is not just a channel between two bodies of water. It has always been a crossing point. A trading route. A boundary between Kent Island and the mainland.
Boats tied up here long before the restaurants arrived. Oysters moved through these waters by the ton. Deals were made on docks that no longer exist.
Families built their lives here on tide, weather, and risk.
On June 25, we will be sitting in the middle of it.
I am hosting a seven course waterfront storytelling dinner at The Narrows Restaurant.
Where the Water Narrows.
The building sits on the bones of an oyster house that once worked these waters.
Each course is paired.
Each pour has a purpose.
Each story belongs to the water outside the windows.
This is not a wine dinner.
This is not a history lecture.
It is one room. One night. One table at a time.
Here is what we served on April 16. An updated June 25 menu is coming.
First Course
Oysters on the Half Shell
McKinney’s Island oysters served hogwashed and with champagne mignonette
Paired with Champagne
Second Course
Smoked Eel Maki
Third Course
Salad of Nuts & Berries
Paired with a Berry Hugo Spritz
Fourth Course
Drunken Crab Ball
Fifth Course
Roasted Duck Leg and Thigh over Parmesan Polenta

My private label Kent Island red wine made with Chesapeake Manor Vineyard

Between courses I will guide you through the history of this narrow waterway and the land that borders it.
The Native people who lived here first. The packing houses. The shanties. The watermen. The legends. The bridges. The risk that built the seafood economy here and the changes that followed.
We will close the evening with a toast as the moon rises above the Narrows.
If you have ever driven across the bridge and wondered about the water below you, this is the night to stop and sit with it.
Tickets are $185 per person and include all courses, pairings, and gratuity.
Only 40 seats are available.
