Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair (DAAF) warmly invites you to explore our series of Masterclass events as part of the 2026 Public Program.
Learn from incredible artists, and be guided and inspired as they share their stories and knowledge of both ancient and contemporary techniques—then take home your own piece from the Fair!
Sit with artists of Nagula Jarndu and create your own block printed design to take home.
The prints of Nagula Jarndu are created by the artists, each telling the stories of their own Country, language, and culture in their designs.
This is an opportunity to think about where you come from, where you call home. What kinds of things do you find there? Is there something in the landscape? Or a particular plant or animal which is special to where you live? Maybe you have a memory of something there that you do because you are in that place?
Nagula Jarndu artists will guide participants through carving their own design into rubber to create a stamp, then using it to block print onto a tea towel and tote bag to take home.
Meet the Art Centre: Nagula Jarndu (Yawuru for Saltwater Woman) is an Aboriginal Art Centre based in Broome. They are a collective of women from different language groups making contemporary textiles, art, ethical slow fashion, homewares, earrings, and other products inspired by Country, culture, language and stories handed down from the old people.
Be sure to stop by their DAAF booth and head to their website to learn more: www.nagulajarndu.com.au
DAAF’s Public Program Masterclasses have been developed with both artist and participant experiences in mind. Masterclasses have a three hour time slot allocated so that participants can feel comfortable and grasp new techniques with confidence. Participant numbers are also capped to ensure an intimate experience.
Brought to you by Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair, the Public Program is proudly supported by the Northern Territory Government through Tourism and Events NT, Creative Australia, Copyright Agency Cultural Fund, McDonald’s Group and premium media partner Peppermint Magazine.
