Erected in 1923, this substantial, three-story Grade II listed building stands as a powerful legacy of the local mining populace. The structure's funding was a true community effort, financed by regular "penny a week" contributions from local miners' wages, alongside a grant from the colliery owner, Sir Samuel Instone. The Hall quickly became the vibrant social core of the community, a much-needed respite from the demanding life of the mines. It originally housed a variety of facilities: a spacious public hall, a library, a working cinema, a popular dance floor, and a billiards hall. Now managed by a charitable committee, the hall maintains its community focus, hosting everything from drama schools to craft groups.
