3:00–3:10 PMArrival & Check-In at The Broadside

Meet your fellow participants, check in, and receive a brief introduction to New Orleans' community food ecosystem and the afternoon's experience.

3:10 PM – Walk to Sprout NOLA

Tour an urban farm and learn how this nonprofit supports community gardeners, beginning farmers, and access to fresh, locally grown produce throughout New Orleans.

4:00 PM – Walk along the Lafitte Greenway to the Crescent City Farmers Market

Learn about one of New Orleans' most significant urban redevelopment and active transportation projects while connecting neighborhoods through green space.

4:30 PM – Presentation by Crescent City Farmers Market

Discover how the market supports local farmers and fishers, improves food access, and strengthens the regional food economy through partnerships with community organizations across the Greater New Orleans area.

4:50–5:20 PM – Farmers Market Experience

Enjoy time to explore the market, meet local vendors, and learn about seasonal Louisiana produce and locally made foods.

Attendees will enjoy healthy food samples from three featured market vendors, including vegan and vegetarian offerings. Together, these vendors showcase the rich cultural diversity and global influences that shape New Orleans' food community while demonstrating that nutritious eating can be both delicious and culturally authentic.

5:45 PM – Walk back to The Broadside along the Lafitte Greenway.

6:00 PMSeafood Cooking Demonstration & Tasting with Chef Dana Honn

Experience a live cooking demonstration featuring Gulf seafood with Chef Dana Honn. Enjoy samples while learning about sustainable seafood, local sourcing, and the role seafood plays in New Orleans' culinary traditions and healthy eating patterns.


Weather & Transportation

This is primarily an outdoor experience and will take place rain or shine unless the farmers market is cancelled because of severe weather.

Please bring:

  • A poncho if rain is forecast.
  • Hat and sunscreen.
  • Comfortable walking shoes.

Parking & Transportation

  • Free street parking is available throughout the neighborhood surrounding The Broadside.
  • The Broadside also offers a small complimentary parking lot.
  • The #27 bus stops directly on North Broad Street.
  • The Canal Street streetcar stops a short walk away at North Broad Street.
  • Cyclists can easily access The Broadside via the Lafitte Greenway.

Accessibility

This experience includes walking on paved paths and sidewalks with occasional uneven surfaces. Participants who use mobility aids should find the route manageable, although comfort levels may vary.

Participation requires beginning at The Broadside for the introductory orientation.
