About this Event
Twenty years ago, Hurricane Katrina came ashore on the Gulf Coast and left destruction in its wake. While many lives and homes were lost, traditions and communities continued on. This August, we will revisit Katrina's legacy with a concert of New Orleans jazz standards accompanying images of disaster and recovery.
We'll ask the questions: could it happen here in Maine as it did in New Orleans (and then, in 2012, in New Jersey), and how can we be better prepared?
The Soggy Po' Boys, a popular brass band from Portsmouth, New Hampshire, will play music ranging in style from early swing to Creole funk.
Doors open at 6:30pm, concert begins at 7pm. Beer, wine, and soft drinks will be available for purchase before the performance.
Meet the Band
The Soggy Po Boys, native to New England, have quickly become an institution. They are spreading the good news of New Orleans music across the northeast and beyond, playing at concert halls and street corners; music festivals and burlesque festivals; bars and libraries; wherever the party requires. Part of the beauty of New Orleans music is that it's celebrated and appreciated wherever it goes, from the street to the theater.
