Soft Landing: Half-Day Retreat for BIPOC Changemakers
About this Event
"We need our rest, our dreaming, to remember that another world is within reach.” -Adrienne Maree Brown
Soft Landing is a half-day retreat for BIPOC changemakers to catch our breath without losing our fire. We wanted to create a space where rest and reflection allow us to dream of a better future. And with 2026 being the Year of the Fire Horse, we know many of us are moving and carrying more than we say out loud. But a horse that never gets to stop eventually breaks down, and we do not want to run empty in the name of the cause.
That's why we'll focus on rest, resilience, embodiment, and sustainable movement work. We believe that tending to our nervous system and dreaming with each other is timely medicine as we advocate for change in our community.
What to expect:
- Mindfulness and breathwork
- Grounding practices
- Journaling and vision boarding
- Group processing
- Communal knowledge
- Community building with likeminded BIPOC changemakers
This is where you can come back into your body, pick up a few tools for staying grounded when everything is changing, and remember that rest isn't the opposite of the work. It's how the work lasts.
Come as you are. Bring your fire. Let's figure out how to keep it burning without burning out.
Our Values
This retreat centers BIPOC communities and is rooted in healing justice, collective care, and liberation. We believe our well-being is deeply connected to one another and that sustainable movements require spaces where we can rest, reflect, grieve, celebrate, and imagine together.
We welcome people across lived experiences, identities, abilities, body sizes, genders, and spiritual traditions. We ask everyone to help create a space grounded in curiosity, consent, respect, and care.
We recognize that our struggles for justice are interconnected. We stand in solidarity with communities resisting oppression around the world, including in Palestine, and affirm that collective liberation is only possible when all people are free.
Together, we practice the belief that caring for ourselves and one another is not separate from movement work. It is how we sustain ourselves, our communities, and the work for the long term.
ABOUT THE CO-HOSTS
Yoo-Jin Kang, MPH (she/her) is a queer Korean American facilitator, astrologer, and the founder of Yoo-Jin Kang Consulting, a healing-centered leadership and organizational development practice that partners with individuals, nonprofits, and mission-driven organizations to build resilient leaders, healthier teams, and more equitable workplaces. Her work is grounded in the belief that sustainable movements require sustainable people and that tending to our nervous systems is essential to creating lasting change. At Soft Landing, she will guide participants through grounding practices, gentle movement, mindfulness, and somatic reflection, offering practical tools for staying rooted, resourced, and connected while navigating seasons of uncertainty and change.
Arianna Dela Rosa M.Ed is the founder of Empower First Coaching, where she provides trauma-informed empowerment coaching to first-generation and BIPOC individuals. She came into this work believing that liberation is both structural and personal, that you can't organize for a freer world while running yourself into the ground, and that tending to our inner lives is not a distraction from the movement but part of how it survives. She has led workshops for organizations across education, non-profit, and law, helping first-generation and BIPOC changemakers grow in their leadership with a regulated nervous system. She's hosted retreats and live events for BIPOC communities in LA, SF, Chicago, and NYC on wellness, self-love, and courage, and is excited to finally bring this work to D.C.
